Take a Class!
Theatre 1: A performance-based course which offers students an introduction to the process and production of theatre. Students create meaning through collaboration and performance.
Musical Theatre: With an emphasis on performance, students receive training on the specialized skills used to produce Musical Theatre. The course focuses on acting, singing, and dancing. They are expected to participate in the performances offered by the Theatre Arts department. Theatre I is a prerequisite.
Theatre Company: Students continue to enrich and expand their knowledge of world theatre history, theory, and practices including classical and contemporary acting techniques and both textual and performance analysis. They are expected to participate in the performances offered by the Theatre Arts department. Theatre I is a prerequisite.
Technical Theatre (Semester Course): Looking to sharpen your technical theatre skills? Come take Technical Theatre for a .5 credit course.
Theatre Apprenticeship GT: The Theatre Apprenticeship is for those who "live and breathe" all things theatre. The apprenticeship focuses on developing professional theatre skills such as directing, leadership, budgeting, concept work, theatre research, and theatre education. Students are self-driven and motivated to excellence in the Theatre Arts. This class is by application only. Theatre I and Musical Theatre and/or Production Company are prerequisites.
Audition for a Show!
Fall Play: Sign up for an audition time the first week of school in September on the call board outside of the Theatre room (802). Prepare a one-minute long monologue. Monologue options are available outside the Theatre Room. Memorization is strongly encouraged but is required for students taking advanced Theatre courses (Production Company, Musical Theatre, Theatre Apprenticeship.
Spring Musical: Sign up for an audition time in December on the call board outside of the Theatre room (802).
Awkward Improvisation Team: This premiere group, established by our prior CHS Theatre teacher Ms. Carlsen, holds two days of auditions in October. They perform unscripted and unrehearsed material for the enjoyment of audiences three times a year. Rehearsals are 45 minutes every Thursday after school in the theater room. (Please email Mr. Traver for information regarding our Improv Team).
Join Tech Crew!
Help us build the show! Choose between lighting, sound, and stage crew. Come to the interest meeting announced at the beginning of each production for more information!
Apply to International Thespian Society!
Applications can be turned into Mr. Traver by October each year. 10 hours of theatre involvement are required to be eligible for acceptance into the society. This includes but is not limited to participation in the cast/crew of a show, production critiques, and enrollment in an advanced theatre course. If you have been in a production -- you have the hours to join!
